healthy, natural smoothies

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I know that when I have a really good energizing breakfast, it helps me feel more positive and ready to attack whatever obstacles I face. My go to morning smoothie is this one:

Green morning smoothie

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups kale or leafy greens
  • 1 banana
  • 1 fruit from kiwi
  • ½ avocado

Put into blender and blend until smooth.

Leafy greens contain a large amount of vitamin K, while bananas are excellent for potassium. Kiwi fruit is a great source of vitamin C, and avocados are a healthy fat which is associated with raising ‘good’ cholesterol.

When I get home from work, I tend to need a pick me up before I complete homework or do other tasks. I absolutely love this smoothie:

Green tea/ blueberry smoothie

  • 1 ½ cups frozen blueberries
  • 3 Tbsp hot water
  • 1 green tea bag
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • ½ banana
  • ½ cup regular or soy milk

Place tea bag in hot water and let brew for three minutes. Remove tea bag and stir honey into tea. Put frozen berries, banana, milk, and tea into blender. Blend until smooth. Blueberries contain a lot of vitamin A, which is important for maintaining a healthy immune system!
